SBC @ Prayer ~ August 28th and Beyond

August 24, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Dear Beloved Intercessor,

Are you longing for revival and spiritual awakening in our land? You are not alone. Our only hope is God’s mercy on our churches, for a spirit of repentance to be poured out, so that we can return to our first love. The number of calls to pray this fall is evidence that God is putting this on the hearts of His people.  See information about the 40/40 Prayer Vigil, the September 11, Cry Out America, and Bless our Schools Sunday in the left navigation bar. This very week, there is another important request to join in fervent prayer.

Leaders of the North American Mission Board and the International Mission Board are asking Southern Baptists to join in prayer on Saturday, August 28, as we lift up members of the search teams who are looking for new presidents for each entity. See James 1:5. Please mark your calendar and pray for this very important process. Ask God for wisdom and pray as He leads you. See the God at Work section below about this urgent call to prayer.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much” (James 5:16, NASB).

Thanks for praying with the NAMB prayer team.

For God’s glory,
Elaine Helms

Spiritual Awakening Prayer Focus: Despising God

“But men despise God’s goodness. Even Christians can be guilty of that sin . . . they take advantage of God’s goodness and providence . . .  yet never offer a speck of repentance for their denial of God’s glory.” –John MacArthur

Scripture
“Or do you presume on [despise, KJV] the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?” (Romans. 2:4, ESV)

Prayer
Lord, we come to You in repentance for our sin of despising Your goodness, forbearance, and patience. Forgive and cleanse us of denying Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen

God at Work: August 28 – Pray for New IMB and NAMB Presidents

As the Southern Baptist Convention’s two mission boards continue their respective searches for presidents, they are asking Southern Baptists to set aside Saturday, August 28, as a day of prayer and fasting to ask God to direct the entities’ paths. Read the God at Work story www.namb.net/GodatWork.

Focus on SBC . . .

  • Pray NAMB will have wisdom to effectively implement the recommendations of the Southern Baptist Convention to become more productive and efficient in reaching the 258 million people in North America who have no personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Pray that thousands of persons will seek God’s face for spiritual revival and national renewal by participating in the 40/40 Prayer Vigil. This prayer initiative consists of 40 days of prayer from September 20-October 29, culminating in 40 hours of constant prayer from October 29-31. Go to www.4040prayer.com for more information and to download a free prayer guide.
  • Pray for those not using the Daily Prayer Guide to begin using it to draw closer to God and return to wholehearted devotion to Jesus. Weekly Prayer Guide.

People Group Prayer Request

Navajo: Please pray for the Navajo people that live in the Western United States on reservations such as the Navajo Nation. They are a people who struggle on a daily basis with poverty, economic hardship, and despair. These pressing burdens can be a struggle for the children, elderly, and women. The Navajo people have a strong resistance against Christianity seeing it as a “part-time religion” which ultimately keeps them from finding salvation in Christ. Please pray that God would use chronological Bible storying as a tool to spread the knowledge and hope that is within only Jesus Christ to the Navajo people.

Praise:

1,147 Bikers made professions of faith in Jesus Christ during the outreach to those attending the August 13-15th Bikers’ Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. Read the story.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NASB).
